High resolution anoscopy
High Resolution Anoscopy (HRA) is recognised as the most accurate diagnostic procedure for intraepithelial anal neoplasms screening. HRA is particularly used in at-risk patients (suffering from HPV) and for the early diagnosis of cancerous and pre-cancerous lesions at the anal canal level. This procedure allows to monitor the evolution of pre-cancerous lesions, intervening only where necessary and in a minimally invasive manner, before the evolution of the disease requires more drastic treatment.
The examination steps largely replicate the procedures used in gynaecology:
● Visual inspection (in this case an anoscopy is carried out);
● Visual inspection of the anal mucosa moistened with 3% acetic acid;
● Biopsies of whitish areas previously detected with the acid;
● Use of Lugol’s solution for further detection.
The instruments most often used to perform a high-resolution anoscopy are the colposcope or the high-resolution camera that allows a magnified view of the anorectal region by highlighting details of the mucous tissue that cannot be discerned by the naked eye. Rectocam FULL HD is the instrument designed by Sapitech for accurate high-resolution anoscopies. Its performance allows it to provide high-resolution videos and images of the anal channel.
